Villanova junior designated hitter Dain Hall (Barington, IL / Barington) and La Salle sophomore lefthander Eric Van Wyk (Garnet Valley, PA / Garnet Valley) have been named the Philadelphia Big 5 player and pitcher of the week, respectively, in voting conducted by the city’s head coaches and sports information offices.
Hall batted .500 (11-for-22) with five RBI and eight runs scored as Villanova compiled a 4-1 week. He has hit safely in the past seven games for the Wildcats, raising his average to a season-high .321.
Van Wyk allowed one earned run in eight innings and struck out seven batters. He surrendered just two hits for the week as batters hit just .083 against him.
The Big 5 will announce its weekly player and pitcher awards every Tuesday throughout the season. The fifth annual all-Big 5 baseball team will be announced at the end of the season.
