December 9, 2013

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - JayVaughn Pinkston of Villanova was named the Philadelphia Big 5 men's Player of the Week while Penn's Alyssa Baron and Saint Joseph's Natasha Cloud shared Big 5 women's Co-Player of the Week honors for their outstanding performances.

Pinkston averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of convincing Philadelphia Big 5 victories over Penn and Saint Joseph’s.  After netting 14 points versus the Quakers, Pinkston contributed 27 points, eight rebounds, and played what head coach Jay Wright called ‘the best defensive game of his life’ in the win over the Hawks.

Baron led the Quakers to a 3-0 week after averaging nearly 19 points per game and shooting 50% from the floor.  She scored a season-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists that helped her squad earn its first Big 5 win at La Salle in 40 years.  She netted 15 points against LIU, 18 points versus Bucknell and shot 94.7% from the charity stripe on the week.

Cloud led the Hawks to a pair of Big 5 wins over city rivals Temple and Villanova by averaging 17.5 points, 10.5 assists, and 6.5 rebounds per game.  Against the Owls, she had a career-best 21 points and 13 assists and followed that up with a 14-point, eight-assist, seven-rebound performance versus the Wildcats and made the eventual game-winning jumper.
