Temple's McCarthy leads Big 5 women's basketball award winners

The Philadelphia Big 5 held its annual Women’s Basketball Banquet on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, to honor the achievements of the players and coaches over the course of the 2009-2010 Season. Among the honorees are sophomore Kristen McCarthy of Temple who was named Player of the Year, Temple’s Tonya Cardoza as Coach of the Year, and the Villanova Wildcats as the 2010 Philadelphia Big 5 Champion.
Also receiving recognition are Saint Joseph’s Ashley Prim and Villanova’s Laura Sweeney, who were honored as co-recipients of the Rookie of the Year Award. Ashley Logue of Saint Joseph’s was awarded the Most Improved Player, while Tara Lapetina of La Salle and Maria Getty of Villanova were honored with the Sportsmanship Award.
The Big 5 All-Academic team consists of La Salle senior Morgan Robertson, Penn senior Sarah Bucar, Saint Joseph’s freshman Shelby Smith, Temple senior LaKeisha Eaddy, and Villanova junior Shannon Elliott.
Honored with a spot on the First Team All-Big 5 are seniors Brittany Ford of Saint Joseph’s, McCarthy, Getty, Robertson, and Eaddy. Second Team includes junior Shaqwedia Wallace of Temple, senior Jasmine Stone of Temple, along with Sweeney, Bucar, and Logue.
