Temple sweeps weekly Big 5 basketball honors

Men's Player of the Week
The Philadelphia Big 5 honored Lavoy Allen (Jr., F) of Temple with the Big 5 Men’s Player of the Week award. Allen averaged 13 points, 19 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 block per game as the Owls went 2-0 on the week. He grabbed a career-high 21 boards and scored 17 points to lead Temple to a 65-53 over La Salle. The win secured the Owls their fifth 4-0 Big 5 season in school history. He became the first Temple player to tally 20 or more rebounds in a game since Joe Newman had 24 in 1973. He also racked up 17 rebounds in the 49-41 win over Dayton on Wednesday.

Honor Roll
• Rodney Green (Sr., G) of La Salle averaged 21 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game on the week. He also shot 45.2 percent from the field and racked up three steals.
• Zack Rosen (So., G) of Penn tallied 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists in the Quakers’ one-point loss to Columbia on Friday and then added another 23 points at Cornell on Saturday. Rosen went 9-for-9 from the free throw line for the weekend and enters the next game having hit 18 in a row. He has scored in double figures in 11 straight games.
• Scottie Reynolds (Jr., F) of Villanova averaged 18.5 points per game as the Wildcats went 1-1 on the week. He has now moved into third place on Villanova’s all-time scoring list, behind only Kerry Kittles and Keith Herron.

Women’s Player of the Week
Temple’s Kristen McCarthy (So., F) was awarded Player of the Week on the women’s side. McCarthy averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as the Owls finished their regular season going 2-0 on the week. She scored 17 points as Temple defeated Richmond 77-67 on Wednesday. She followed this up on Saturday by leading all players with 22 points in the Owls’ 61-51 victory over George Washington. She also tallied three assists, two steals, and a block for the week.

Honor Roll · Brianna Bradford (Fr., G) of Penn averaged 12 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game on the week. She led the Quakers with a career-high 15 points coming off the bench against Columbia on Friday and added on three boards, two assists, and a steal. The next night against Cornell, she racked up nine points, two rebounds, and an assist.
• Mariame Djouara (Sr., G) of Saint Joseph’s averaged 14 points per game as the Hawks went 1-1 on the week. She put up 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the Hawks’ regular-season finale, a 69-58 win against Duquesne.
