The Philadelphia Big 5 women's series tipped off on Friday Nov. 14 as La Salle traveled to Villanova. The Explorers escaped with a 67-62 OT victory in the season opener for both teams. La Salle Junior Jamie Walsh led all scorers with 19 points and dished out a career high seven assists. The next Big 5 women's game will be on Wednesday Nov. 19 as Penn hosts Villanova at The Palestra (4 p.m.).

The Big 5 men's action tips off on Dec. 2 as Villanova travels to Penn. Last season, the Villanova men's team had a streak of 14 straight wins against Big 5 opponents halted by Saint Joseph's and finished 3-1 in the series to share the title with Temple.
